How to analyze news articles in prelims and mains perspective?

Newspaper reading is one of the important aspects of preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Exam. Aspirants should know that it is not important to read the complete newspaper in detail. There are some methods to analyze the newspaper through which the aspirants can get maximum benefit. Today we will be discussing in detail how to analyze news articles from prelims and mains perspective. The recommended newspaper for the preparation is The Hindu and Indian Express. What should we read from these papers? 

 · From National news: The aspirants should be focusing on Nationwide schemes and initiatives launched by the government. News related to the scientific development or ISRO. 

 · From International News: International meetings, events attended by the Prime Minister and President of India, and agreements signed between the countries. Reports published by International organizations like WHO, UN, UNICEF, and others. 

 · From Economy News: SEBI, RBI, NITI Aayog press releases. Measures and initiatives introduced by the finance ministry like GST reforms, Relief packages, and others. 

 · From Polity News: Parliamentary bills, and acts. Ministry-wise schemes and reports. Verdicts of the supreme court and high court. Schemes announced by the government.

 These are the important things to focus on while reading a newspaper. 

 It is important to understand the syllabus of the UPSC exam thoroughly. Then the aspirants can understand the relevant news related to the syllabus. 

 Look at the previous year’s question papers, and understand what type of questions were asked. This will help them to read more systematically. 

Give extra time for reading editorials, and make use of technology like new apps which will help you to store newspaper clippings and important news. Revision is one of the important aspects, so go for weekly and monthly revisions of what you have stored in your device from the news pieces.
