What is the Inclination Of The Earth’s Axis and its effects? | UPSC Geography

The Inclination of the earth’s axis is the reason why we see different seasons on Earth. The planet’s axis is perpendicular to the disc that surrounds the sun and the earth’s orbit around the sun takes 365 ¼ days to finish as the planet rotates on its axis to give us night and day.

Today we will be discussing in detail the Inclination of the earth’s axis and its effects. The Earth’s Axis is a hypothetical straight line that passes from the North and South Poles of the planet. Whenever the Earth’s axis is toward the Sun, the summer begins and when the earth’s axis points away from the sun, then it is winter. The North Pole of the earth never points directly toward the Sun because the earth’s axis is tilted at an angle of 23 ½ degrees.

The inclination of the Earth’s axis and its effects.

During Equinox, each portion of the earth experience 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness. This happens only once a year and it depends on the time of year, and the location of the world because the earth is tilted at 23.5 degrees. The Equinox happens on March 20 and September 23. Another major effect of the inclination is when the earth’s polar regions are mostly sun-facing around the summer solstice, this term is also called midsummer.

This happens both in the northern and southern hemispheres every two years. During the summer solstice, there is continuous sunshine in the Arctic and Antarctic circles. When the tilt is away from the sun, winter solstice happens.

This occurs twice a year and it is a day with the least daylighting and there is the most darkness on this day. In the Arctic and Antarctic circles, there is total darkness or twilight.

So this is all about the Inclination of the Earth’s axis and its effects. The angle of tilt of the earth has remained consistent throughout history. This also helps to stabilize the environment of life and stabilize the action of the Moon.
