Jainism is one of the most popular religions in India. The founder of Jainism was Vardhamana Mahaveera. In every city in India, there are Jain Mandirs, Pathashalas, Libraries, and other institutions that practice the work of Jainism.
There are various organizations and sects of Jainism. The Jain society is organized into four groups and they are Sadhus, Sadhvis, Shravaks, and Shravikas. The Sadhus and Sadhvis in Jainism renounce their worldly life and practice a life of discipline and self-awareness. They give guidance to all classes of people and promote spiritual values that help the proper development of their lives. They practice meditations, celebrate devotional festivals, and write articles.
The Shravaks and Shravikas in Jainism carry on their worldly duties but still pursue the path of self-realization and spiritual elevation.
There are two sects of Jainism and they are Digambara, and Svetambara sects. The Digambara sects believe that whoever wears clothing cannot achieve perfection. They believe that a man should abstain from food, and including clothing. They also deny women the right to salvation. They strongly believe that there is no salvation in this world unless one is naked. There are sub-sects of Digambara like Bisapantha, Terapantha, and Taranapantha.
The Svetambara sects are the ones who preserve the original scriptures of Jainism. The only thing that matters to them is to achieve the state of perfect non-attachment. They believe that attachment is a distraction that stands in the way of salvation. The Svetambara sect allows women to join the order. They are divided into sub-sects like Murtipujaka, Sthanakvasi, and Terapanthi.
Jainism organizations and sects were formed to attain salvation. Various institutions, schools, and temples practice and preach the lessons of Vardhamana Mahaveera, and follow the principles of the organization and sects of Jainism with utmost devotion.
