How Did Life Began On Earth? | UPSC Geography

  • Com 0

Every living creature on this earth has come through the progressive creation of the species, this term is called the evolution of life. Today we will study more about the origin of life on earth and its details.

Life started evolving on earth at least 4 billion years ago, and the evolution continued and there is no stopping it. In the beginning, all the living creatures on this planet were single-celled organisms and the multi cells species came into existence later that’s how the earth’s biodiversity grew rapidly.

First, the earth was a rocky planet with an atmosphere associated with Helium and Hydrogen. The several layers that make the earth went through an evolution over millions of years.

First, the Lithosphere which is the outermost layer of the earth was volatile in the beginning years. As the temperature inside the earth’s core increased, the material inside the earth separated and the heavier materials started to sink towards the earth’s center and the lighter ones moved to the surface.

All these light materials cooled and solidified to form the outer layer of the earth which is now called the Lithosphere.

Next, the evolution of the atmosphere took place. The atmosphere is nothing but the mixture of gases that surround the planet. The earth’s atmosphere is mostly composed of Nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide. As the temperature in the earth’s core rose and then cooled, the gases released during this process resulted in the evolution of the atmosphere.

The volcanic eruptions and increased water vapor levels in the atmosphere led to the rainwater and caused more rain. The final stage in this evolution is the modification of the atmosphere’s composition through photosynthesis.

After the atmosphere and lithosphere formed on the earth. The final stage of evolution was the origin of life. This phenomenon happened when the chemical reactions generated the complex organic molecule which could duplicate themselves.

The first form of life on earth was flora and fauna. Later on, before 600million years ago, sophisticated forms of life evolved slowly on the earth and multi-cellular creatures started emerging on earth. This emergence of these creatures played an important role in Earth’s biological graph and altered the planet’s environment.

In the year 1953, Oparin and Haldane came out with a theory that life originated from non-organic molecules like proteins and RNA. Many scientists conducted experiments regarding the same concept.

All of these theories are widely accepted and explain to us the formation of the planet earth and the evolution of life in various forms on the planet.
