What is Space Diplomacy? | UPSC International Relations

Space Diplomacy is the practice of using space to conduct foreign affairs and gain advancement in the national interests. Space has become a new venue for globally powerful countries to compete and create dominance. By doing so, the countries will get international recognition, and status.

Space as an instrument in Indian Foreign Policy

Space will be a major instrument for India because we share the fruits of developments of the latest space technologies with neighbors, and it will also help us to boost and project India’s soft power and goodwill among the globally powerful countries. India’s ISRO has offered a cheaper alternative to launching satellites for other foreign countries. It will also be important for India to counterattack China with the latest space technology. China has advanced satellite tracking that not only tracks but also blinds the other satellites. By collaborating with other foreign countries, we can fight the Chinese influence on space. This will also improve the bilateral relations between India and other foreign countries.
