What Are The Significance Of Fundamental Rights? | UPSC Polity

Fundamental Rights are the basic rights that are guaranteed to every citizen of India under the constitution. They are enshrined in part III of the constitution and they are considered as the cornerstone of the Indian democratic system. 

  1. Protects Individual Liberty: Fundamental rights provide citizens with the freedom to express their opinions, beliefs, and ideas, and to live their lives in the way they choose without fear of discrimination or persecution. They protect the individual liberty of every citizen and ensure that they aren’t subject to Individual liberty of every citizen.
  2. Ensures Equality: Fundamental Rights give us a guarantee that the right to equality before the law, regardless of caste, creed, and gender. This means that every citizen is entitled to equal protection under the law, and no one can be discriminated against on any grounds. 
  3. Promotes social justice: Fundamental rights can play a crucial role in promoting social justice and uploading the principles of democracy. They ensure that every citizen has equal access to opportunities, resources, and public services.
  4. Protects against exploitation: Fundamental rights protect citizens from exploitation, ensuring that they are not subject to forced labor, slavery, or other forms of exploitation. They also ensure that children are not forced to work and are entitled to education.

Fundamental rights are an essential component of the Indian democratic system, and they play a crucial role in protecting the rights and freedoms of its citizens. They ensure that every individual is treated with dignity, and respect, and that the government is held accountable for its actions. It is important for every citizen to be aware of their fundamental rights and to use them to upload the principles of justice, and freedom in the country.
