What Are The Awards related to science? | UPSC Science And Technology

Science and technology keep growing in the world with major inventions. Behind these inventions, there has been tons of dedication, research, and passion to do something better for the world. 

For this amazing effort, scientists are awarded prestigious awards. Today we will have a look at the prestigious awards which are related to science. 

1)Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award– It is an award given by CSIR for notable and outstanding research, applied in the field of biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, and environmental science. The award is named after Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar and the award is presented to the council of scientific and industrial research. The recipient of the award will get a citation, plaque, and cash award of Rs 5Lakhs. 

2)Kalinga Prize– Kalinga Crize was created in 1952. It is an international award given for the exceptional contribution made in the field of communication science to society and for promoting the popularization of science. The present organization giving this award is UNESCO. 

3)Jamna Lal Bajaj Award– Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation was established in 1978. It is an award that is presented by the Prime minister/president or the vice president of India. The award amount is Rs 5Lakhs. The categories available in this award are the Application of Science and technology for rural development, construction work, and other philosophy. 

4)Nobel Prize– Nobel Prize is one of the most prestigious awards in the world given for the contribution to the greatest benefits to the human race in the areas of physics, chemistry, physiology, literature, medicine, and peace. The first award was given in 1901. The award was named after Alfred Nobel. The reward will be a gold medal, a diploma, and a monetary award of $1,45,000. 

5)Abel Award– Abel Award is presented to those who have done outstanding work in the field of Mathematics. It is named after Norwegian Mathematician Nields Henrik Abel. The award is presented by the Government of Norway. The first award was given in the year 2003. 

6)Lasker Award- Lasker Award is awarded to individuals who have done an amazing contribution to medical science. The award was presented in 1945 and it is hosted by Albert and Mark Lasker foundation. 

7)Turing Prize– Turing Prize is one of the most prestigious awards. It is also called as Nobel prize in computing. The award will be given to the individuals who have done an amazing contribution to the computer science field. It is presented by the Association of Computing Machinery and the first award was presented in 1966. 

So these are some of the most prestigious awards given to the ones who have contributed their lives to science. All of these awards are very prestigious and they are considered a milestone in a scientist’s life.
