India and World Collaborations in Science Projects | UPSC Science and Technology

India has collaborated with some powerful countries for some amazing science projects for a better future. Today we will be looking at some interesting science projects which are done by India and other countries together.

LIGO Project for Detection of Gravitational waves

LIGO Project is one of the massive and best science projects. The gravitational waves were detected for the first time by the LIGO Observatories. More than a thousand scientists from 15 countries have jointly made this discovery.

In this group, there were 39 scientists from India who played a direct role. They contributed in several aspects like designing algorithms for the analysis of signals from gravitational waves and also estimating the energy and power that is radiated from the black holes.

Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research

Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research(FAIR) is an amazing project coming up in Darmstadt, Germany. The research is all about a sophisticated accelerator complex that will use high energy and ion beams to mimic the conditions inside the core of the stars and the early phases of the universe. India is also a part of this facility, they will be focusing on how to build NUSTAR, CBM, and PANDA.

International-Thermonuclear-Experimental-Reactor(ITER)

The International-Thermonuclear-Experimental-Reactor is entirely focused on creating an environment that mimics the sun in laboratory conditions by using nuclear fusion. The challenge in this project is to create high-temperature plasma in a confinement to achieve nuclear fusion. In this project, India’s scientists and institutions like Plasma Research, Ahmedabad are playing important roles.

Thirty Meter Telescope

Thirty Meter Telescope is an advanced ground-based telescope that is made up of 492 individual segments and will have a reflective diameter of 30 meters. The telescope will be 81 times more powerful than any other telescope. In this project, India, China, CalTech, the University of California, Canada, and Japan are working together.

CERN discovery of Higgs Boson

India became a full associate member of the world’s largest particle physics laboratory CERN. The contribution of Indian scientists to the CERN is to mainly build the Large Hadron Collider and two CERN experiments viz. CMS and ALICE.

So these are some of the most interesting and amazing science projects in which India collaborated with powerful nations. By participating in these massive science projects, India would become one of the top five global scientific powers.
