Ecology is a study that helps us understand the connections between plants, animals, and the world around them. As we have recently experienced dramatic climate changes like heat waves and cold waves. We need to understand Shallow and Deep Ecology here because they are important strands of the environment that help us in understand the relationship between humans and nature.
The concept of Shallow and Deep Ecology was introduced by Norwegian philosopher Arne Naess in 1970. He described Shallow and Deep Ecology by placing humans in the center of the environmental crisis.
Shallow Ecology: Shallow Ecology is a political position that environmental perseveration should be practiced to an extent that it meets human interests. It is a powerful fight against pollution and resource wastage. Shallow Ecology is also termed as weak ecology because it includes the use of vehicles that cause less pollution and air conditioners that do not release Chlorofluorocarbons into the atmosphere.
Deep Ecology: On the other hand, Deep Ecology deals with the humans should change their relationship with nature. The main objective of Deep Ecology is to sustain nature by making large-scale changes to human lifestyle.
This includes farming, preserving forest areas, and reducing the artificial fattening of animals. Deep ecology also discusses reshaping transport systems that involve the usage of internal combustion engines. In simple terms, humans have to cooperate and co-exist with nature. They shouldn’t be exploiting or dominating it. Deep ecology deeply believes in the live and let live attitude approach.
Difference between the Shallow and Deep Ecology
Deep Ecology is a movement that promotes ecological wisdom. Like it impacts the large-scale changes to our human lifestyle and makes us connect with nature even more deeply. While shallow ecology is also a good strategy, it doesn’t make us connect with nature. It only discusses cutting out the things which are causing problems to the environment.
So this is all about Shallow and Deep Ecology. We mustn’t dominate nature and policies must be introduced for various technical skills and inventions that are helpful for ecology.
