India’s relations with the neighboring countries | UPSC International Relations

India is a peaceful country where everyone tries to maintain a positive relationship with their neighbors. India is also regarded as a peace-loving nation and the majority of countries have a good relationship with India. Today we will look into the details of India’s relationship with neighboring countries.

India was a founding member of International organizations like the United Nations, Asian Development Bank, G-20 major economies, and others. Millions of Indians live in other countries. India shares borders with Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, Burma, and Bhutan.

Bangladesh– Bangladesh is one of the border-sharing countries of India and its immediate neighbors as well. India’s relations with Bangladesh were strained and the border conflicts near Tripura and other several issues arose between the countries. India has become increasingly vocal about Bangladesh’s lack of border security. There has been also a historic agreement between the countries in which is the exchange of more than 150 enclaves of land to simplify their border security measures.

Afghanistan– India, and Afghanistan have good relations in all sectors. The aviation connectivity between the two countries improved over time. The Afghan embassy in Delhi has interacted with National and Local businesses to strengthen commercial links between the two countries. India plays a vital role in Afghanistan’s work towards peace and prosperity. From ancient times Afghan and India have interacted through business and trade.

China– Earlier, India, and China had good relationships but in the past two years India has completely cut off their connections with China. India has banned many apps which were created by China and the products from China have also been banned. Right now, India is promoting the term which is called Atma Nirbhar Bharat which helps to promote the products which are prepared in India only. There are also some border issues going on with China regularly. There is a tense situation going on at the border regularly.

Pakistan– India, and Pakistan have a very tense relationship, especially after the Kashmir issue things got tense between the two countries. Ever since the split in 1947, tension situation has always been there between the countries. Many terrorist attacks have happened in India, and India also replied with strong answers.

India has amazing relationships with Germany, America, Russia, Ukraine, UAE, Israel, France, Cambodia, Australia, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and others.

Even though there are some disturbances at the border and political issues as well. India has always tried to maintain peace and order in the country.
