India’s New World Order Strategy: Balancing Interests and Pursuing Global Leadership | UPSC International Relations

Presently in 2022, India is experiencing a global transformation with major events that are happening across the globe. The changes are faster than ever, and there is a clear indication that the world is moving towards a new world order in this situation what will be India’s strategy? 

Challenges In the New World Order. 

There are quite some challenges that will impact India and its approach. 

1. The major challenge is China abandoning the one country two systems policy. That is they have stripped Hong Kong of its freedom and invited international disgrace to them. 2. Another major issue India is facing is the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. The battle between Russia and Ukraine has been happening for many months and neither of the countries is not willing to give up on the battle. Even though India is trying to negotiate some terms with Russia to end the war, the situations just keep on getting worse in this battle. While other powerful nations like America, and France want India to take a call on Russia and Ukraine. But India has chosen to remain neutral in this battle. 

3. One of the major issues is the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan. This has led to a major shift in the balance of power in the troubled region on India’s periphery. 

4. Wars like Ukraine will be more frequent in the coming days and India must take a leadership role in this new world order because the world is moving faster than we think and India shouldn’t miss this opportunity to place itself in a leadership role. Because in the next few years, India’s GDP is expected to be $8.4 trillion which means we will surpass Japan as Asia’s second-largest economy. 

Recently India has come up with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and in this event, the government has presented an opportunity to inspire the country to be bold and brave it shouldn’t sell itself short and believe in taking the leadership role in the new world order.
