Arthashastra is an ancient Indian Political treatise that was written by Kautilya, also known as Chanakaya around 300 BCE. The ancient text is considered as one of the important works on Political science and governance in Indian History.

Arthashastra means “ the science of wealth” the text has wide range of topics that are related to political and economical governance and also taxation, trade, agriculture, law enforcement, warfare, and more. The primary focus of the text is on the duties and responsibilities of the ruler, and how to maintain order in a society.

The Arthashastra is important because it provides valuable insights into the Political and economic systems of ancient India, and offers a detailed account of the social, economic and political conditions of the ancient times. 

It is also an important source of information on the philosophy of governance. It provides guidance on how to achieve and maintain peace and prosperity in a society. Even in the modern era, the ancient text has influence on Indian Political practice.
