The Battle Of Panipat, was fought on April 21st, 1526, and it marked a important turning point in Indian history. The fierce battle between two powerful forces of Ibrahim Lodi, the last ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, and Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire.
Military Strength and Strategies
Ibrahim Lodi commanded a massive force of Afghan and Indian soldiers. His army was equipped with elephants, skilled archers, and artillery. On the other hand, Babur had a smaller army and it was composed of Central Asian troops who possessed cavalry, musketry, canons which provided him a technological advantage
The Battle Begins:
The battlefield at Panipat witnessed a massive clash between the two armies. Ibrahim Lodi’s forces launched a massive attack, aiming to overpower Babur’s army. However, Babur’s motivated troops, led by his superior troops managed to repel the attack and maintain their positions. Babur cleverly used canons to inflict heavy damage to Ibrahim Lodi’s forces.
The Turning Point In The Battle
As the battle progressed, Ibrahim Lodi’s elephant corps advanced into the battle to trample Babur’s troops. Then Babur ordered his troops to create a gap in their own ranks, allowing the elephants to pass through. Once the elephants were isolated, Babur’s archers and musketeers targeted them, causing chaos and panic among Ibrahim Lodi’s forces.
Defeat Of Ibrahim Lodi
Despite the valiant fight, Ibrahim Lodi’s army began to crumble under the assault by Babur’s forces. Ibrahim Lodi himself fought bravely but ultimately perished on the battlefield. The Battle Of Panipat marked the end of Delhi Sultanate and the establishment of the Mughal Empire in India, with Babur as the first emperor. The battle set the stage for the Mughal dynasty, which governed the subcontinent for the next three centuries.
